Ludy Bührs (NL) & Harald Calle (B) (1 of 2) - Mijn zijn vervlakt

english prose translation of Ludy's dutch dizain*

My Existence Flattens

How do I pull myself up from my darkness, where can I find light, will my eye see a hold?
My cold hand, that is but searching, yearning so much to fit in another, it slides down into shade and it searches, just finds the emptiness that I wear, uncertainty, my being a question.
How much is left of me, who am I?
The night is long, seconds are ticking slowly, my existence flattens with each hollow stroke.

* a dizain is a poetic stanza used mainly by French (early) Renaissance poets. It consists of 10 lines of each 10 syllables in a ababbccdcd rhyme scheme. Besides François Villon's work, the most famous dizains were written by Lyon's great master Maurice Scève who published his DÉLIE in 1544, a dark and allegedly very obscure Petrarcan ode to his idealized love spread over 449 dizains with an eight line dedication added.

dirk vekemans (b) - three verbigrammata

dv 2012, bister, burundi soil & ink on paper, A5

(verbigrammata are asemic ideograms recited during ritual services inside the Neu Kathedrale des erotischen Elends. Between brackets the pronunciation of the verbigram is given in NKdeE Schoonschrift). A very approximative rendering of their erased meaning in english  is given in the burundi soil coloured tombstones below the Schoonschrift.

Ali Znaidi (TUN) - Darkness

Darkness

A poorly lit room.
Lingering dimness.
Darkness is stretching
its hands—
a playground for
nightmarish memories.
I pour them
in an empty glass.
Darkness still winks
emanating a dim light
like a flint.
Darkness is a big black glass.
We just drink in its void,
waiting for rescue
from a flint that
skates the silky skin
of the somber night.

Ali Znaidi lives in Redeyef, Tunisia where he teaches English at Tunisian public secondary school. His work has appeared in The Camel Saloon, phantom kangaroo, BoySlut, The Rusty Nail, Yes,Poetry, the fib review, Ink Sweat and Tears, Mad Swirl, Red Fez, & other ezines. His debut poetry chapbook Experimental Ruminations was published in September 2012 by Fowlpox Press (Canada). He also writes flash fiction for the Six Sentence Social Network—http://sixsentences.ning.com/profile/AliZnaidi.

Philip Meersman (B) (1 of 5) - 10. Jesus is stripped of His garments

 10. Jesus is stripped of His garments

Take it
strip me
of my dignity

behold the flesh
casement of the soul
stare at what is left
a worn out body
agony
dolor
torment

habeas corpus
ad subjiciendum
ad recipiendum

Exposed to you
I am bare
easy
to touch
to corrupt
to molest
to plunder

Devote yourself
to the diaphanous dermis
present in your parish
carress it
let your hands slide over it
worship it with your whole self
hang onto the notes
the choir chants
blatantly fornicate
and state that I’m in you
Catachristis
ask forgiveness
it shall be given
by the power infested in me
let the children come to you
and sing

When the dog bites
When the bee stings
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad

Spencer Selby (US) - Collapse Body Text

COLLAPSE BODY TEXT

A book lies open drawing attention
from a world you can’t make out.

Moving without movement
through a sky of white vapor

kindred subjects, roofless houses
used air exits standing in for

those who know an outline fits the crime
they’ve lost since childhood sounded

like something recently disturbed
where a word can’t help its nerve-

muscle contractions from looking funny
to the stillness caught and verified above.

Blood is flowing where two eyes
and a vast exception used to live.

The sneaky astringent angle of that
one look, that one desire to intervene

made resolution come up short on the
sidewalk bordering your artificial home.

But where should you really reside
when death and pain deliver no end

of variants to remember while every-
thing in your body mimics the same

rigorous circumstance that prevents you
from understanding why you’re wrong.

How will you make necessity
into something you can survive

if a moment you don’t recognize
is always standing on your head?

A perfectly understandable
human gesture might land you

on either side of this dilemma
but that won’t stop all the silence

you don’t want to think about
from doing its appointed job.

A book lies open to a broken page
still turning over life’s most recent

black white object calling back a color
when the absent shades of memory

leave no room for that special kind
of accident made up in advance.

The bright sun is shining
through a window you don’t notice

while you’re standing in the corner
feeling lost. A little bit further off

a road leading back to where you
came from is empty and glad.

Truck in November

Thank you Halvard and hi all: here's my, er, editorial statement of sorts, i would like to give u all some clues as to what are my plans for this month's Truck

November, here in the Low Countries, is nature-wise perhaps the most dreary month, lot's of rain, darkness and cold. Therefore i have urged my local colleagues practicing some form of creativity to send me lot's of beauty, works of any kind so i can post them here to counter the sadness out there. We'll see what we can get that way, there's already some response by probably our foremost mail artists Luc Fierens.

Next i would like to make an international call for works here, and because i am currently working on a larger project, this would be a thematic call. I propose the theme of  'State of Exception' as understood  and spun out over his influential 'Homo sacer' series of books by the Italian philosopher Giorgio Agamben. All posts made here under that theme will be used later in a p.o.d edition of  'SETT: State of Exception Texts & Things', because i will be taking this project further during and after november

Later this week i will be posting a introductory summary of the theme as i could grasp it from my (ongoing) reading of Agamben's books. For now i would just like to say that i am fully aware that it is not easy to use a philosophically developed concept like Agamben's for creative purposes and that the concept is outspokenly political and could lead to works of a rather radical/controversial/unsettling nature. So perhaps we're in for a rough ride, or we could even get stuck in our own mud two miles out, but hey we're driving a darn truck here, not some two bit lorry van.

So anyone reading this who would like to contribute something to our 'State of Exception Truckload' please send your works (textual, visual or auditory) to dirkvekemans@yahoo.com and i will post them here using any specifications you might include in your mail. I'm trusting that the usual network process of establishing a 'natural' gate will make it unneeded for me to take any editorial interventions in what you may send me, so everything will be posted 'as is'.If your files are over 5mb, please use dropbox are some other file transfer service.

Before preparing the p.o.d. edition of SETT (that will be about fall 2013), i will be writing you back to grant me permission to include your works in the edition. That edition will be sold at the price of printing, so there won't be any profit for anyone, except the p.o.d. service, of course.

Please do not hesitate to spread this post to whom you see fit, do let the engines roar wildly before we set off into the deep of night.

thanks,
dv
