Sniffing Arizona Perfume (S M Martin Russell)
"Sniffing Arizona Perfume"
The serpent beguiled her, and she did eat
Nature
Lady of all truths
a trade unionist
Stuck here
learning everything
risking no generosity
Red lips and black eyes
in love with the why of things
turning her face away from what life seemed to be.
Absent of love
no longer a woman
Victory but a moment bonded by time,
unable to distinguish
herself from a stranger,
art and artifice -
Come,
vow privately to govern the clock.
What I love
does not belong to me.
