Jeff Harrison: A Poem

Dangerous Palmistry

Virginia, calm-browed opossum,
watching whom writing do

Virginia, calm-browed opossum,
any of my names vaunted
is a lure to rival any forked meat

Virginia, calm-browed opossum,
I, too, o'erlooked graceful usurpers

Virginia, calm-browed opossum,
common collars, daily, abjure,
twice, my familiar folly, Virginia,
O Virginia, calm-browed opossum

Virginia, calm-browed opossum,
we neglect artillery kings; the mad are horrid
Virginias, Virginia, calm-browed opossum,
the mad are horrid Virginias still

Virginia, calm-
browed opossum,

awakened
the moon
and, with
all portion
of notes,

stayed the pluck, old cheat,
slowed the oft, loitering like
some longer-lived eye's toy

Virginia, calm-browed opossum,
corpses, perchance, meek me well —
CHRONOS, Virginia, met as a sparkling lisp

Virginia, calm-browed opossum, you, too,
tho craftily, not perchance, meek me well

Virginia, calm-browed opossum,
last night I dreamed I owned
a W. Somerset Maugham novel entitled
"Miss Claverly And The Postmodernists" —
it was a slim black Signet edition with
the inscription, in unknown hand, THIS
MAKES DEPTHY DEEPS FOR ROARING ICE

Virginia, calm-browed opossum, you, too,
may yet make depthy deeps for roaring ice

Virginia, calm-browed opossum, to speech, aye,
to speech the deranged oath — dare I? — aye:
"dangerous palmistry, ah!, dangerous palmistry"

Felino A. Soriano: Two Poems

          evaporating teachings
fingers rubbing callused music                from palm of delegation

a turquoise reaction

from angled song                              from an expanse

nearing first

from peripheral analogies

spectral systems     spatial emblems

Recalling affirmations

diligent frequencies comprise
linear thoughts                      well when a best
promise leans toward

affection, and what enunciates becomes
an elongated bouquet of precise hanker and

eventual collaboration of warmth     /     silence

Vernon Frazer: Two Poems

Growth Explosions

avocado rhythm burst
invasion sentries passed the encore

     floating
to awaken in life boat tunnels

while the gloat returns to surface

fabric turns to social
games to make of cloth and play
forever
           a charade

*

nickelodeon dimers cheapen
the worst of it
          coming after the spill

declines a rubber noun
no indecent gestures rematched

on entry
or after splayed footage

deepens the untidy recompense

*

module vapors intensify
deflated claims to aching yardage

an apple intuits a deference call
from the garden central mythos
an old bet snakes up in arrears

quadruped bandana whirls
shaking the sonic irreverence
unfurling panoramic division

     tempting the girl
          to taste the vining
  slither of long meat
*

where the roar hurts
the silent say their macabre
prayers under breath

     venting
     on the worst vegetation crater

        left to center
          the scored evasion cast

before a first pittance declares its fruition

Reluctantly Resigned

persiflage notations peal
empty
   rancor
             buttons
freed from symbolic intent

     notable lamentations
     vent a coded diaphragm
     more real

      than breathing

   a             slow
    locomotor
       transit           motion

past their notion to recede
from
        terminal vantage
          cameras

as their plated lenses sweat
eye grit from landfill rotation

no locust frenzy lost
emerges found
           to remind them again

to file turkey drip resolutions
with pendant authorities that cling
to license
        where freedoms allow

wilting
a cummerbund sunday
when

         macaroons need to thread
         their faucet drip insinuations

before the prescient
    drip montage       deflection
 dispels the truant

inclined to detail sorrow
